The Institute of Telecommunications and Global Information Space of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is a state budgetary non-profit research institution based on state ownership, under the jurisdiction of the NAS of Ukraine and part of the Department of Informatics of the NAS of Ukraine.
The main directions of scientific research of the Institute:
- telecommunications;
- mathematical modeling;
- information technology and cybersecurity;
- robotics and robotic systems;
- artificial intelligence and machine learning;
- additive technologies;
- environmental safety and nature management;
- scientific education in the global information space.
The Institute has received and is renewing in accordance with the established procedure:
- state certification of a scientific institution;
- status of a scientific institution supported by the state;
- status of a non-profit organization;
- a license for educational activities.
The Institute has a postgraduate and doctoral program, as well as a specialized academic council D26.255.01 (technical sciences) for the defense of candidate and doctoral dissertations in the specialties 01.05.02 – mathematical modeling and computational methods and 05.13.06 – information technology.
The Institute employs 122 people, including 3 academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 2 corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 33 doctors of sciences and 42 candidates of sciences.
History of the Institute
The Institute was born and created in the turbulent times of the young Ukrainian state with the participation of talented and active scientists who sought to find answers to the challenges that life posed to Ukraine.
1986
The accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
1990
A creative team was created as part of the NAS of Ukraine’s work to eliminate the consequences of the accident. The team consists of scientists, postgraduate students of the Institute of Hydromechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Cybernetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, as well as postgraduate students and students of the Faculty of Cybernetics and the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
1992
The creative team started large-scale work on the creation of the Inform-Chernobyl OTS, which united databases of more than 80 organizations and became the basic one for the Ministry of Chornobyl, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
1993-1997
The creative team implements the international project JSP-2 by order of the European Commission. The aim of the project is to create a pan-European decision support system in case of an accident at nuclear facilities (20 project participating states).
1997
By the Decree of the President of Ukraine of 10.06.97 No. 520/97, the Ukrainian Institute for Environmental and Resource Research under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (UIDNSR) was established on the basis of the creative team.
2001
A group of leading scientists was separated from the UIDNSR and the Institute of Telecommunications and Global Information Space of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was established on its basis (Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 483 of May 06, 2001, Resolution of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine No. 146 of May 30, 2001).
In 2001-2015, the Institute was headed by the Organizing Director Stanislav Dovgyi.
Since 2016, the Institute has been headed by Director Oleksandr Trofymchuk.
