On May 26–28, 2026, the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Current Challenges and Innovative Technologies in Civil Protection and Environmental Safety for the Post-War Recovery of Ukraine” was held in Kyiv at the International Exhibition Centre within the framework of the 22nd International Specialized Exhibition “Protection Technologies / Fire Tech”.

The Institute of Telecommunications and Global Information Space of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (ITGIS NAS of Ukraine) acted as one of the co-organizers of this prominent international scientific forum. Representatives of the Institute also served on the Conference Program Committee, actively contributing to the development of the scientific agenda and the identification of priority research areas in civil protection and environmental safety.

During the conference, Professor Vasyl Trysniuk, D.Sc. (Engineering), Head of the Department of Environmental Research at ITGIS NAS of Ukraine, delivered a presentation entitled “Information Technologies for Aerospace and Geoinformation Monitoring of Technogenic and Environmental Threats under Wartime Impacts.” The presentation was prepared in co-authorship with Professor Oleksandr Trofymchuk, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, D.Sc. (Engineering), Director of ITGIS NAS of Ukraine, and Oleh Klymenkov, Ph.D. in Engineering.

The presentation highlighted research results concerning the application of modern Earth observation technologies, aerospace monitoring systems, and geographic information systems for the rapid detection, assessment, and forecasting of technogenic and environmental threats caused by military activities. Particular attention was paid to the integration of satellite data, spatial analysis methods, and geoinformation modeling for environmental assessment, evaluation of ecological damage, and information support for post-war recovery processes in Ukraine.

Another presentation was delivered by Yevhen Yakovliev, D.Sc. (Engineering), Chief Research Fellow at ITGIS NAS of Ukraine, who presented research findings focused on environmental safety challenges, risk assessment, and approaches to mitigating the negative consequences of wartime impacts during the country’s recovery process.

In addition to participating in the conference, the Institute showcased its scientific and technological developments at the 22nd International Specialized Exhibition “Protection Technologies / Fire Tech.” Visitors were introduced to advanced solutions in environmental monitoring information technologies, the application of aerospace and geoinformation technologies for assessing technogenic and environmental risks, and decision-support tools for civil protection and post-war recovery.

For its active participation in the exhibition and significant contribution to the advancement of modern information technologies in civil protection and environmental safety, ITGIP NAS of Ukraine was awarded a diploma of the 22nd International Specialized Exhibition “Protection Technologies / Fire Tech”.

The conference brought together representatives of leading scientific institutions from Ukraine and abroad, higher education establishments, governmental authorities, non-governmental organizations, and experts in civil protection, environmental safety, humanitarian demining, and critical infrastructure protection. Among the co-organizers were institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, specialized universities, public associations, and scientific organizations from Australia, Germany, and Italy.

The participation of ITGIS NAS of Ukraine in organizing and conducting the international forum, presenting its scientific developments at the exhibition, and receiving official recognition confirmed the Institute’s significant role in advancing interdisciplinary research and implementing innovative technologies aimed at ensuring technogenic and environmental safety and providing scientific support for Ukraine’s recovery under contemporary challenges.
