On May 20–21, 2026, researchers from the Institute of Telecommunications and Global Information Space of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine participated in the 5th International Scientific and Practical Conference “Green Construction,” held at Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture.
As part of the conference’s scientific program, a presentation entitled “Assessment and Monitoring of Environmental Damage Caused by Military Actions Using Aerospace and Geoinformation Technologies” was delivered by Professor Vasyl Trysniuk, D.Sc. (Engineering), Head of the Department of Environmental Research at the Institute of Telecommunications and Global Information Space of the NAS of Ukraine. The presentation was prepared in co-authorship with Professor Oleksandr Trofymchuk, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, D.Sc. (Engineering), and Director of the Institute of Telecommunications and Global Information Space of the NAS of Ukraine.
The presentation highlighted the results of scientific research aimed at developing modern approaches to assessing the environmental consequences of military activities through the application of aerospace technologies, geographic information systems (GIS), and spatial analysis methods. Particular attention was devoted to the detection and monitoring of soil degradation, groundwater contamination, the formation of geochemical anomalies in areas of intensive military operations, and the forecasting of long-term environmental risks.
During the presentation, it was emphasized that the use of Earth observation data, satellite monitoring, and geoinformation modeling enables the rapid detection of environmental disturbances, spatial assessment of the scale of damage, and the creation of an information framework for informed decision-making regarding post-war territorial recovery.
The presented research findings constitute an integral part of the Institute’s scientific activities focused on advancing environmental monitoring information technologies, assessing technological and environmental risks, and supporting environmentally sustainable recovery processes in Ukraine under current challenges.
Participation in the conference contributed to the discussion of pressing environmental safety issues, the development of interdisciplinary research, and the expansion of scientific cooperation among institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, higher education institutions, and international scientific organizations.
